Full Circle

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted – honestly sorry. I do LOVE posting, sharing and giving insight into the world of stationery, but tis’ the season for wedding invitations – and the clients always come first! It’s also a season where we hear common questions and get tons of suggestions for posts – and don’t worry they are all on their way.

When it comes to the 2016 client list – this year is extra special because I had the honour of designing for my “very first clients” brother’s wedding. It’s amazing how relationships you make with your vendors can truly last lifetime. Meeting with then mother-of-the-bride and now mother-of-the-groom was magical. Six years later the family still remembered the quality of work, design style and exactly why they trusted me when my brand was just starting off. I am thankful to those first few clients everyday – if it wasn’t for them Vibrance would have never taken off.

On that note – to my fellow frendors (vendor friends) and especially those who are new to the industry still trying to make their mark, remember one thing, to build a memorable relationship with your client. No matter how big or small your part is on their special day TRUST me as a recent bride and fellow vendor they will remember how everything played out. Every little detail matters – and so does how you handle those details. Never think of a client as a single contract – it’s a lifetime relationship. When you make them feel comfortable and safe, they can trust you and your art. That’s the key.

Till next time! Xo

Your Wedding Invitations | After the wedding

Invitations are not just paper – it’s the first thing your guests will see about your wedding story, whether they attend or not. But what happens to your invitation after the big day?

I’ve always looked at invitations as something to preserve – it’s a memory and a marking of your wedding day that beautifully illustrates you as a couple joining together; making it the perfect keepsake.

So how should you preserve your invitation?bb9de85c-92ba-4a9c-9916-af18acefc7d8

  1. Frame it. It’s the simplest way for some chic artwork that is actually quite significant to you. It not only looks fabulous, it’s a conversation piece that could very well stick around for generations to come.
  2. Canvas it. We love art canvases so why not take a piece of your invitations and flip it into one? It’s custom artwork that plays two roles in your life.
  3. Plexi-glass it. I’ve done this a few times for several couples, especially those who create fashion illustrations as the cover of their invitation. Like Canvas it’s custom art for your new home but the cool thing with plexiglass is that it’s lightweight and clear, so it enhances your design and it looks super cool when it’s backlit!
  4. Decoupage it. Decoupage will use your invitation and envelope lining to create a plate that is truly personalized on any piece of furniture or material – it’s a fabulous gift for your parents and in-laws!
  5.  Add a Silver touch. For the brides and grooms who came under budget and are looking for a little bit of a splurge investment you can have your invitation engraved on in silver – perhaps a nice tray that becomes a family heirloom!

Any other ideas? Comment below and tell us how you made your invitation into a special keepsake piece!

Invitation: Love it or Leave it

Invitation ‘must-haves’ have changed significantly over the years, so what trends do we love and which do we want our customers to toss out the door? – check out our love it or leave it list!

  1. Leave it: Maps Remember real physical maps? Me neither. So let’s talk about those simple sketched maps of the closest intersection to your venue. When was the last one you used this map? I can’t remember the last time I pulled up a map on something other than my phone GPS. All the Auntys and Uncles are punching in your venue address to their GPS too so the verdict: let’s leave it!It’s unnecessary and generally takes away from your beautiful stationery. Also if you do another insert it just adds bulk to your invitations, adding to your print cost and postage too!

  1. LOVE it: Stamps Get your OWN personal address stamp! It’s not only budget friendly, it adds a personal touch and saves your hand from writing out your return address a million times on the invitation and RSVP envelopes!A stamp can be made in any font, style and used as long as you don’t move out. Inks are super cheap and available almost everywhere OR you could even get a self inking stamp! Plus it’s fun to sit and stamp while sipping wine and finishing up the last episode of the bachelor! It’s a keepsake for everything like your thank you cards or any future mail outs that could always use face lift! ead68957-c7e4-4566-9ddf-5ecc12a4d4b0

  1. Leave it: Too much information I’ve had brides and grooms who are falling into the pressure of adding too much information to their wedding invitation. Keep it simple, include the names of your parents if they are hosting – or just your names. It’s 2016 and it’s time invitations had a fresh start too. Think clean and concise!

  1. LOVE it: Seals  1170073_816911278431548_1406231641_nWhether you choose and adhesive wax seal or a full artwork seal; sealing your invitation adds an extra touch of luxury without breaking the bank.
Wax seals are the ultimate luxury – they bring back a rich vibe and add a vintage touch. Plus they are adhesives now so you really have no work to do!Sticker seals are so budget friendly and can be made in any colour; it’s a wonderful spot to show off your monogram!

And who says the seals will only be used once?! Order some in bulk and add them to your thank you cards and all your other mail outs (hello holiday cards!)

2016 | Top 5 Stationery Trends

Happy New Year all! We’re ringing in the new year with our stationery trend predictions for 2016.

Getting married this year? Well you better get reading then.
Here is Vibrance Designs Top 5 wedding stationery trends for 2016!

  1. Bye-bye blush, hello bold12348053_10153003049751362_2275478251195196036_n
The blush colour pallet trend has been on the rise for the last few years but this is coming to a halt — well kinda. Pure blush pallets are out of here, it’s time get unconventional and welcome a new blush palette with a bold punch of colour! This brings in a burst of luxury to your event. Both the Pantone colours of 2016 Rose Quartz & Serenity have a softness to them which we know will be enhanced with a rich navy, royal purple, bottle green, sunshine orange or a delicious red.
  2. All that glitter and gold
Metallic is here to stay. They not only add to your wedding but play a significant role in adding that oomph factor to yourbangastudios-004 stationery. We’re talking about that extra spice with gold, silver, some antique gold foiling or even rose gold!If foiling is not in your budget then don’t worry bring in a metallic shimmer paper that adds that extra level of luxury without breaking your budget.
  3. Intimate affair
This is an ongoing trend taking it’s baby steps in 2015 but in 2016 it’s in full affect! More and more couples are choosing intimate smaller weddings where they know the guests and know that there is nothing but a room full of blessings waiting for them. Maybe it’s just family, 30 people or even just 200 people (vs the regular 500+ at a big fat South Asian wedding) everyone is looking to downsize. This not only creates an atmosphere of love it also helps the couple budget things they really want for their wedding, that could mean a bit more on food, entertainment or even stationery!Intimate affairs always lead to an enhanced guest experience and what’s better than stationery to bring that in. We’re going to be seeing a lot more details in 2016 that pertain to the couples. Whether it’s the classic bar menu, a funny napkin design or perhaps your wedding menu flipped over to be your love story timeline; these small stationery details are the added touches that will make your intimate affair memorable.
  4. Themes12313945_10100729701445455_713080476445349107_n
We’ve seen themes pop up here and there but in 2016 we know it’s going to be the thing to do! With the release of Star Wars – why not! You can make your wedding elegant, beautiful and truly you. So do it -bring hip-hop and Kate Spade crashing into one room together! This is where stationery will play its biggest role. Who says a Star Wars theme wedding can’t have beautiful floral arrangements, with lux linens and a stunning backdrop that is classic – just add in a menu card, with fun illustrations and throw in the theme onto your table numbers – heck why not hint at it in your invitation as well. There is always a way with stationery to bring in a quirky, fun, interesting theme and make it look super classic!
  5. Oh Snap and Please Hashtag #VibranceWedding
We love intimate weddings, and no one said you need to “disconnect” for this. I will say please never come in the way of a professional photographer or videographer BUT let’s hashtag! Invitations and day of stationery are exactly how you should promote your hashtag – it not only gets people talking it allows them to share their memories with you, so add it to your invitation, perhaps your welcome sign or even that funny bar menu and see the reactions first hand!Make all these invitation and stationery trends come to life for your wedding. Go ahead give us a ring! 😉

Emotions Love Wedding Programs

Sakshi&SandeepWeddingProgram

Even if the culture and religion are the same, program to program this little piece of paper, or fan, or booklet, or whatever you want it to be, can uniquely express the couple’s love for one another. They are just as much fun to design as invitations since you can get super creative!

The very first wedding program I designed was for my girlfriend, who now is one of my bridesmaids. I remember clearly the day I sent her the proof. She told me she had tears of joy; all of a sudden as she read the ceremony program and it was real. She was getting married to the man of her dreams. That wasn’t the last time a bride (or groom) has told me that they got a little emotional while reading their ceremony programs. I always love being the person that makes everything in all this wedding planning craziness feel so real.

Today I’m designing my own program. Let’s just say, I’m feeling more like a bride than a designer today… *wipes away tears*

T-36 more days #PujaSumit2015

PS: This picture isn’t my wedding program (did you think you’d get to see it that easily?!). This is a fun behind the scenes look at one of our process days, where we created these fabulous fan programs for a wonderful 2015 couple!

Bridal Diary: Designing for my wedding

You’d think designing my own stationery would be easy. I mean the base of the design is done with the invitations and I’m all about branding the event so it should be.

Funny enough I don’t think I’ve every experienced a harder client to please. I am my worst critic. I find myself always trying to be more creative and out of the box with something different that is still within budget (Mr. Fiance favorite word these days – err!!). Maybe it’s the pressure? Everyone is expecting something fabulous so I have to deliver. As invitations roll out, I feel like expectations get higher too. Which is always a blessing of a problem to have.

Part of it has to do with my clients love. I want to love my stationery as much as my clients love theirs. I swear the best feeling in the world is when someone emails/calls or even sends you a nice text message saying how blown away they are by the designs and how they can’t Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 1.29.01 PMwait for the big day.

See that feeling right there, I did that, and there is no high comparable to that. It’s like giving someone happiness through my art. What more could a graphic designer ask for?

But when designing for myself it gets a bit difficult, no matter what I design I never know if it’s good enough. This is where my minions (aka Vibrance Designs Interns for life aka sisters) and Mr. Fiance come in. But should I trust them? What if they don’t want to hurt my feelings and it all really sucks! Haha, doubtful, they are a pretty honest bunch but the thought did cross my mind. Blame it on the bridal brain!

Oddly I also find I have similar concerns that my brides and grooms have with stationery, even when I already have the answers.

Like last night while designing my own stuff  I kept thinking  – does it all look too similar?! I literally had to walk myself through the guest experience to remember my guests are not going to see each element side by side, but rather each piece will stand out as they walk through the event; bringing it all together.

It’s strange I had to remind myself this, but I guess that is bridal brain too. I’m only human at the end of the day!

Okay I’m done my spiel. Back to designing…

Bridal Diary: Distance

Disclaimer: This blog post is an emotional one.

I am the eldest of three girls, my sisters are my world and mean more to me than words can describe. When I first met Mr. Fiancé I told him – if they don’t approve unfortunately I will have to leave you – and I honestly would have. Lucky for him, he fit right in. I don’t want to say more than this as I know I have to write a speech in just a few months and trust me I’m saving the good stuff for then.

With the wedding fast approaching my mind seems to wander to areUsas I didn’t quite imagine it would ever go.  Growing up with sisters I always had a best friend, roommate and someone to attack those closet monsters with. As we grew older they became the closet monsters, seeing how every time I would purchase something it would somehow end up in their hands and I’d get it back as soon as it was worn out. This year both my super intelligent sisters (“creative” engineers – I’m  the only one with the artsy gene) had opportunities they couldn’t say no to. One moved to Calgary, Alberta for this opportunity while the other is spending the summer in Kingston, Ontario researching alongside her prof – I know, nerd alert! I am beyond proud of them; the thing is as selfish as this may sound it hurts every time they leave after a weekend. I tried describing this to Mr. Fiancé but it’s something you just won’t understand unless you are a girl and have a sister.

Years before my wedding – as any normal group of girls we’d always spend days talking about “wedding prep” … “oh but when you’ll get married we will do this and that and make sure I’m there for the tasting” … etc. Now that it’s time – it seems the universe had other plans and separated the three of us physically. See now, this is all done over the phone or Google Hangout. It’s not how any of us imagined it, nor how we wanted it to go down. Yes, it works – but it’s just not the same. Although technology demolishes the distance between us, it’s still unsettling w10403012_10100771829141731_3394418821229135517_nhen you want to walk into the other room and just talk to someone, yet no one is there. Let’s also not forget how crazy parents are – three against two is a lot easier than one against two. We get a dose of this every time one of them visits, but it’s just that – a dose. My sisters weren’t able to come to the tasting nor the initial reception gown selection. They know my every move with the wedding – it’s just different. I wish I could change it but at the same time I’m proud of these women in my life.

Maybe the universe did this to make moving out a lot easier. Maybe it was done on purpose to ensure I don’t flood my town with tears during the doli (who are we kidding I probably still will and don’t think I’m less of a person for being emotional while one chapter closes in my life – that’s another ramble for another post).

Whatever the case may be it is not easy. Especially now that sometimes my new purchases end up in Kingston and Calgary. 😉

Earth Day

Happy Earth Day all! We love our paper goods here at Vibrance Designs. We also love making the world a beautiful place and making sure it stays that way.

How do we ensure we do our part?

  1. OfficePlantRecycled Papers. Did you know, all our card stocks are FSC Certified? Even our specialty papers – like those beautiful shimmers, are made from recycled materials. (The recycled shimmers actually have a tiny bit more sparkle to them, than non-recycled shimmers!)
  1. Shut Down. Computers and printers take up a lot of energy, so as much as it’s a pain to start it up every morning, we shut down our office computers and personal printers every night.
  1. Paperless Office. Although we produce paper products we do try to keep the office as paperless as possible. This means online calendars, quick notes and all.
  1. Food & Green Bins. Stay green while eating your greens! Our team is big on waste-free lunches. You can easily decrease the amount of garbage you throw out and increase the amount of recycling and compost.
  1. Lights out.  I LOVE sunlight! My office space has a huge window that I can’t live without. With all this natural sunlight why do we need our office lights on? I place my desk right beside the window so I can take in as much natural light as possible and only use the office lights in the winter (when it’s basically dark out at 4:00) or for those occasional late nights.

Every little action can have an effect on the environment. Comment below and tell us how you stay green!

The 3 C’s

There are 3 C’s in stationery design that I often see people mix up.  As consumers you should know what’s out there and what service suits your vision.

So what do the 3 C’s really mean?

  1. Customizable – essentially this means you’re working with a template. You choose a pre-made design and the stationery designer alters the information or sometimes even the fonts/colours to create something that is perfect for you. Many will have the same design as you – it’s like you and your frienJBW2PXDOL6d buying the same jeans but in a different size. (Side note: check out the Etsy shop for our customizable items!)
  2. Custom– this is similar to customizable design but you have a bit more wiggle room. You can choose from templates,
pre-assembled structures, pre-made artwork and mix them all together to create your perfect piece of stationery. This is often confused with couture because you’re able to choose from different areas and create something that is your own. There will still be others out there that will have the same or a similar design as you. It’s like you and your friend buying the same jeans, but in different colours and perhaps mixing it up with different accessories to get that distinctive look.
  3. Couture –With a couture service you sit down with your stationery designer and create a suite especially for you. You choose everything from the paper, structure and treatment. Many do couture differently but for us this also means a hand-drawn illustration that matches your style. It’s like creating a custom piece of art exclusively for you. The creation process is definitely something that everyone should experience once in their life. It’s like Marc Jacobs creating clothing just for you – with your body shape, trends and personality in mind! You can only imagine how beautiful that collection would look on you! 😉

For many years, Vibrance Designs only offered Couture Invitations and Stationery, it’s only recently that we ventured into the customizable market with our Etsy Shop. We do offer some custom work but that’s on a smaller scale.

If you have more questions on this topic or another – leave us a comment and we’ll be happy to answer all your Stationery 101 questions!

Off to print we go!

I did it, hit send, the invites are officially off to print. unnamedWow, even just typing that gave me the butterflies. Not the fun kind where there are little hearts roaming around your head and all of a sudden Shah Rukh Khan comes out playing the violin. This is more like the one where your hands start to shake and you’re constantly praying even if you’re an atheist.

At Vibrance Designs we never send anything to print without final sign off from our couples. This time I’m the couple. I have been cross-checking like crazy and probably driving my minions (aka sisters) insane.
Mr. Fiancé and I are both happy with the invitation. Every piece of it makes us excited for the wedding. The in-laws and my family can’t wait to hold it in their hands!
I’m always a little excited sending stationery to print and seeing the final result. I trust my team and the tools they use; they have never let me down! In fact, they always make my designs come to life.

I’m really proud of this invitation.
I’m excited to share it.
I trust and know my print team will make it flawless.

So why am I so nervous having this baby go to print?

Maybe because it’s real?
Maybe because it sets things in stone?
Maybe because it makes a statement about our event that I can’t take back?
Or maybe it’s because I don’t want to let anyone down and meet everyone’s expectations?!

Who knows…

Whatever the case may be, they are in print-production now. Wish me luck! xo
